Weather, Writing, and Testing

I wanted to connect with you on a few things this morning: cold weather, upcoming writing prompt, NWEA testing, and upcoming PTO Movie Night.

Students will continue to have an inside recess due to the cold weather we are experiencing. Please be sure to continue sending your child with appropriate winter clothing during this time of year. We hold inside recess when the temperature and/or wind chill falls below 20 degrees (or other conditions which make outside recess not possible).

Our next Early Release Day is on Thursday, January 15th (students are dismissed at 12:30pm). On this day, students will have their second writing prompt for this year. This is an important informational writing assessment where students demonstrate their ability to write to inform. Our final writing prompt this year will be on March 12th and will be an opinion writing piece. Students are working on all three genres of writing throughout the year (narrative, information, opinion) and the writing prompt days provide us with an important snapshot of their skill development.

Our mid-year NWEA testing will begin next week (January 12th). This is another important assessment we use to determine growth and possible areas needing additional support and/or instruction.

A PTO sponsored movie night will be held this Friday, January 9th. Doors are open at 6:00pm. All are welcome to attend!

I hope you're able to stay as warm as possible during this cold spell. As always, do not hesitate to contact us with questions or concerns. It is a pleasure to serve this school and community.
